CUSTOM DESIGN PROCESS
Creating your custom engagement ring is a collaborative process. We start with a friendly conversation, whether in person at our Toronto studio, over the phone or virtually, to get to know your story and your style.
From there, we will typically source gemstones or diamond options to show you. After the stone is selected we move on to narrowing down the design with digital mock ups and wax models if needed so you can visualize your ring before it’s made. The final step is production, finishing and setting.
You’ll be involved from the first idea to the final polish, collaborating together one-on-one to ensure that you are confident each step of the way.

How much does a custom engagement ring cost?
The answer is, it varies. We try to accommodate all budgets and ensure that you receive the best possible value for your money. Generally speaking a custom engagement ring will start at around $2000. If your budget falls below this number please still do get in touch, we are experts at coming up with creative ideas!
Because the ring is made specifically for you, your budget can be allocated intentionally, whether that means prioritizing a larger diamond, a unique gemstone, or detailed craftsmanship. We are always transparent about pricing before moving into production.
Is a custom engagement ring more expensive than buying from a brand name store?
Not necessarily. Large brand retailers often have significant marketing and overhead costs built into their pricing. When working with an independent jeweller, more of your budget typically goes directly toward materials and craftsmanship.
Custom design also allows flexibility creating something tailored to your priorities and budget.
Do couples usually design the engagement ring together?
Many couples today choose to design the ring together. While the proposal itself can still be a surprise, selecting the stone and final design collaboratively ensures the ring reflects your partner’s style and preferences.
Often, couples visit our studio together to choose the gemstone and approve the design. After that, the ring can be completed and picked up by one partner so the timing of the proposal remains a surprise. There is no “right” way, we support whichever approach feels best for you.
Can I stay within a specific budget?
Yes. One of the advantages of custom design is that we can adjust elements of the ring to align with your budget while still maintaining quality and durability.
This might mean exploring different diamond or gemstone options, adjusting carat weight, gold karat, or refining the design details. We welcome all budgets and focus on helping you make informed decisions rather than pushing you beyond your comfort level.
How long does it take to make a custom engagement ring?
A custom engagement ring typically takes 4 to 8 weeks from initial consultation to completion, depending on the complexity of the design and gemstone sourcing.
If you have a specific proposal date in mind, we recommend reaching out as early as possible. In certain cases, shorter timelines may be possible.
Should I choose a lab grown or natural diamond?
Both lab grown and natural diamonds are real diamonds with the same chemical composition and durability. The primary differences are origin and price.
Lab grown diamonds often allow for a larger or higher quality stone within the same budget. If you prefer a mined diamond you can be confident that we only work with ethically sourced diamonds.

Can I reuse heirloom jewellery in a custom engagement ring?
Yes. We specialize in incorporating heirloom gemstones and even precious metal into new designs. Reusing jewellery can honour family history, reduce environmental impact, and often reduce material costs. There are more labour costs involved when reusing jewellery but the cost of new metal and gemstones is significant so reusing will usually reduce the overall cost.
We assess each piece individually to ensure it is suitable for redesign and will discuss any structural considerations before moving forward.
Can I set a diamond or gemstone I purchased elsewhere?
In most cases, yes. There will be an additional setting charge applied which will be quoted on an individual basis depending on the project.
Please note that we reserve the right to decline setting any gemstone if, in our professional judgment, the stone appears fragile, damaged, or otherwise at risk of breaking during the setting process. In rare cases we may also decline for any other reason we feel is in the best interest of preserving the integrity of your gemstone and ensuring a successful outcome.
What if I’m not local to Toronto?
We regularly work with clients outside of Toronto and even outside of Canada. The process can be completed virtually through detailed communication, video calls, photos and CAD previews.
Clear communication is essential, and we ensure you feel confident at every step before your ring goes into production.
How do I make sure I don’t “get it wrong”?
We find that most of our clients have done a lot of research and had a lot of discussions before booking their first custom engagement ring appointment. But, if the proposal is a surprise, this can be a concern.
Open conversation with your partner is the best solution. Whether that means discussing style preferences directly, sharing inspiration photos, looking into gemstone options or eventually involving a trusted friend, clarity leads to confidence.

Don’t Forget the Future Wedding Bands
When designing your engagement ring, it’s important to think ahead to your future wedding bands. Even if you’re not ready to design them yet, planning how your wedding band will sit with your engagement ring can save you both time and stress later.
Some engagement ring settings require a contoured wedding band that curves around the shape of the center setting so the two rings sit together comfortably. Others are designed so the wedding band sits flush against the band of the engagement ring. In that case, your engagement ring setting needs to be set slightly higher to make room for the band to slide underneath.
