CUSTOM DESIGN PROCESS
Creating your custom engagement ring is a collaborative process. We start with a friendly conversation, whether in person at our Toronto studio, over the phone or virtually, to get to know your story and your style.
From there, we will typically source gemstones or diamond options to show you. After the stone is selected we move on to narrowing down the design with digital mock ups and wax models if needed so you can visualize your ring before it’s made. The final step is production, finishing and setting.
You’ll be involved from the first idea to the final polish, collaborating together one-on-one to ensure that you are confident each step of the way.

How do I find my finger size?
To get an estimate you can check out this video. You can also get in touch with us to size your ring in person or we can send you a ring sizer if you live outside of Toronto.
I'd like to work with you but I'm not local to Toronto.
If you live outside of Toronto we can still work together to create your custom engagement ring. We have worked with clients all around the world. We will communicate with you via email with photos and videos. Good communication is key when working from a distance. We excel at distance communication and will ensure you are comfortable each step of the way.
How much does a custom engagement ring cost?
The answer is, it varies. We try to accommodate all budgets and ensure that you receive the best possible value for your money. Generally speaking a custom engagement ring will start at around $2000. If your budget falls below this number please still do get in touch, we are experts at coming up with creative ideas!
If I reuse my jewellery in my new engagement ring will it cost less?
Most often yes. There are more labour costs involved when reusing jewellery. But the cost of new metal and gemstones is significant so reusing metal and gemstones will save you money. It is only when you are reusing silver or a very small amount of metal (ie: a pair of stud earrings or a dainty ring) when the labour costs would outweigh the material costs.
Can I set my own gemstone that I purchased elsewhere?
Most often, yes. There will be an additional setting charge applied which will be quoted on an individual basis depending on the project.
Please note that we reserve the right to decline setting any gemstone if, in our professional judgment, the stone appears fragile, damaged, or otherwise at risk of breaking during the setting process. We may also decline for any other reason we feel is in the best interest of preserving the integrity of your gemstone and ensuring a successful outcome.
Diamond Options
If you are looking for a diamond for your custom engagement ring we will present you with multiple options. You have the option of selecting a mined or lab grown diamond. If you prefer a mined diamond you can be confident that we only work with ethically sourced diamonds. We find many of our clients are preferring lab diamonds since they are chemically identical to a mined diamond but at a fraction of the cost.
We have years of experience selecting only the highest quality diamonds to show to our clients. Our strong relationships with local suppliers also helps us to provide you with the best possible options and value.
Gemstone Options
When it comes to gemstone options, there really are so many! We recommend sapphire or ruby as the best gemstones for an engagement ring due to their durability. Sapphires come in all of the colours of the rainbow so there are lots of options to choose from.
Emeralds can be a bit brittle so are a bit risky for a ring you wear everyday. A lab grown emerald is a better choice because it doesn’t have the same vulnerabilities as a natural emerald.
If sapphire, ruby or emerald are not your favourite, we also recommend spinel and topaz for engagement rings. Spinel is a seriously underrated stone that is only now getting more attention. Topaz is another great choice, especially for value.

Don’t Forget the Future Wedding Bands
When designing your engagement ring, it’s important to think ahead to your future wedding bands. Even if you’re not ready to design them yet, planning how your wedding band will sit with your engagement ring can save you both time and stress later.
Some engagement ring settings require a contoured wedding band that curves around the shape of the center setting so the two rings sit together comfortably. Others are designed so the wedding band sits flush against the band of the engagement ring. In that case, your engagement ring setting needs to be set slightly higher to make room for the band to slide underneath.
During your design consultation, we’ll talk through these details with you so your engagement ring is built to accommodate your future wedding band, whatever your style or preference.
